On 18-20 July, 2021-2022, the Conference on Ornamental Horticulture of CSHS was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The seminar was themed "Flower Innovation and Green Development" and was hosted by the Ornamental Horticulture Professional Committee of the CSHS, the National Engineering Research Center for Floriculture of the School of Landscape Architecture of Beijing Forestry University, and the Technology Innovation Alliance of Flower Industry. It was untaken by the School of Agriculture and Biotechnology of Zhejiang University, and co-organized by the Beijing Guojia Technology Innovation Alliance of Flower Industry, the Innovation Alliance of Flower Industry of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, etc. More than 500 representatives from 111 teaching, research, administrative, and enterprise institutions from 27 provinces (regions, cities) across the country attended this academic seminar. 28 teachers and students from our institute attended the conference.

The opening ceremony was presided by Chongde Sun, Dean of the School of Agriculture and Biotechnology at Zhejiang University. Min Ye, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhejiang University, Zuirong Xing, President of the Zhejiang Flower Association, and Fadi Chen, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Horticultural Society and President of Nanjing Agricultural University, delivered speeches at the conference.

The judging committee awarded Professor Shouyun Shen of the School of Landscape Architecture at Central South University of Forestry and Technology the "2021 Special Honor Award for China Ornamental Horticulture", highly recognizing his outstanding contributions in landscape plant application design, ecological restoration technology innovation, and landscape practice teaching reform; The “2022 Special Honor Award for China Ornamental Horticulture” was awarded to Researcher Junmei Yin, the director of the Haikou Experimental Station of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, and Xiaohong Wu, the chairman of Zhejiang Dongfang Mei Garden Co., Ltd., highly affirming Researcher Yin's independent innovation in tropical floral technology and high-quality development of the floral industry, as well as Chairman Wu's outstanding contributions in mei product innovation and industry assistance to rural revitalization.

This seminar has a total of 79 academic presentations, including 5 keynote presentations. In particular, we invited CAE Member, Professor Weilun Yin of Beijing Forestry University, CAE Member, Professor Jingquan Yu of Zhejiang University, Professor Tao Wang, the former vice president of China Agricultural University, Professor Siren Lan, the president of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, and Professor Fadi Chen, the president of Nanjing Agricultural University, respectively, with the topics of "strategic thinking on the innovative development of garden flowers in the context of 'dual carbon'", "plant type regulation mechanism: taking tomatoes as an example", "flowering management", "molecular mechanism of morphological formation and nutrient acquisition of orchids", and "coordinated promotion and exploration of chrysanthemum application research and basic research", and made wonderful sharing from the top-level design, basic research, industrial application and other aspects of flower research.


74 experts, scholars, and graduate students from 38 universities, research institutes, and enterprises gave academic exchange reports, covering 37 species including mei, rose, chrysanthemum, peony, etc., covering basic research, resource breeding, applied research, artificial intelligence, and other aspects. Five teachers and students from our university, including Professor Silan Dai, Professor Ming Sun, Associate Professor Tangchun Zheng, Dr. Lijun Zhou, and Dr. Qi Wang, participated in the exchange.

The organizing committee has edited and published a collection of papers titled "Research Progress in China Ornamental Horticulture 2021", which includes 68 papers. 42 posters were displayed, and 7 graduate students were awarded the Excellent Wall Newspaper Award (2) and the Excellent Oral Report Award (5) respectively; Our student Lijun Zhou was awarded the Excellent Oral Report Award. The organizing committee of the conference awarded the Excellent Organizational Unit Award to the School of Agriculture and Biotechnology of Zhejiang University, and the Excellent Organizational Individual Award to Professor Yiping Xia of Zhejiang University. The School of Landscape Architecture and Art at Northwest A&F University has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2023 Conference on Ornamental Horticulture of CSHS.


Professor Manzhu Bao, Deputy Director of the Ornamental Horticulture Professional Committee, comprehensively summarized the conference from the aspects of conference organization, academic exchange content, research topics, and innovation, and suggested that colleagues should strengthen the combination of innovation and practice, focus on accumulation, and strengthen cooperation.

The conference organized professional research by Zhejiang Institute of Landscape Plants and Flowers, Hangzhou Landscape Greening Co., Ltd./Huajing Qingshanhu Garden Center, Hangzhou Changlin Horticultural Co., Ltd., Jiaxing Biyun Garden Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Chelsea Horticultural Co., Ltd., Hongyue Flower Co., Ltd., and Hangzhou Soil Fragrant Horticultural Co., Ltd. The attending representatives had a deep understanding of the innovation, industrial research and promotion of representative flower and seedling germplasm in Zhejiang Province, and had on-site exchanges with relevant enterprises around nursery maintenance, flower application design, home horticultural guidance, flower industry and rural revitalization.



Affected by the COVID-19, the 2021 and 2022 Conference on Ornamental Horticulture of CSHS were held together. The conference strictly followed the relevant requirements of the guidelines for the prevention and control of COVID-19 in mass gatherings such as large-scale exhibitions and conferences in Zhejiang Province, and strictly implemented various prevention and control measures such as health screening, "two-day two check" nucleic acid testing, and emergency plans. In the context of the COVID-19, it overcame many difficulties and provided a good academic exchange platform for the flower industry in China. In the future, the Ornamental Horticulture Professional Committee will continue to make efforts in platform construction, talent recommendation, and other aspects, making greater contributions to the green development of China's floral industry, rural revitalization, and the construction of a beautiful China!
