Distinctive Features

The Horticulture program was established in 2000 and is a national-level "First-Class Undergraduate Program" construction site and one of the first pilot projects for the National Excellent Agricultural and Forestry Talent Training Plan reform. The program, under the Agriculture discipline's Plant Production category, was the first in China to be awarded a doctoral degree in the Landscape Plants and Ornamental Horticulture discipline. The program's first-level discipline, "Landscape Architecture," is included in the national "Double First-Class" discipline construction list, and the "Landscape Plants and Ornamental Horticulture" (second-level discipline) it relies on is the first national key discipline in this field in China.

Educational Objectives

The program aims to meet the needs of the nation and the development of the discipline, focusing on developing students' independent learning abilities and comprehensive qualities, with an emphasis on practical and innovative abilities. The goal is to cultivate well-rounded, high-level talents with strong moral character, good physical and mental health, a solid foundation in modern biological sciences, and rich theoretical and practical experience in horticulture. The program aims to nurture academic elites with innovative potential in horticultural science, as well as technical and management talents who can drive the development of the horticultural industry.
